Nice! I always wanted to bring a tracker with me on some flight, but I fear at the controls this will create some problem (small handmade remote-control-like object… mmm… I see myself examined very thoroughly  )

I’ve taken plenty of electronics on board planes… The tricky bit i would have thought was getting teh gps fixes.

I took a (small) working satellite on a flight, it even had a battery in it.

It went in the hold bag, but was never questioned.

I had checked on our UK Border Agency website before the flight, there were lots of things on the restricted list, but no mention of satellites.

Be careful about the type and settings you use for the GPS module. Some units have a lockout based on velocity and altitude. Some units need to be configured in a certain way to work properly at high altitudes. The people in the #highaltitude IRC channel on the freenode IRC know all about this, they regularly launch high altitude balloons with GPSes on them, so they can tell you everything about it or can refer you to a place with all the information, for example https://ukhas.org.uk/guides:gps_modules

Indeed so.

I dont recall that any come ready for high altitude\speed.

For a Ublox GPS the details are in the Navigation Configuration Settings section of the appropriate ‘ReceiverDescriptionProtocolSpec’ datasheet.
