The things network hardware from beginning

Years ago I financed the (I think) kickstarter of the The things network and received a the Things network gateway , 4 pieces if the things uno’s and one of the things node.

I still have them in the boxes and did not do anything with them. Is anyone interested in taking them over from me or are they already to old? I tried to put this in the for sale / wanted section but was not allowed to do so. I am sorry I put it here but I see no other way to get this offer under the attention,

Moved it for you.

Realistically the hardware is old and the uno and nodes use a Lora chipset that has issues with the current TTN stack (ironically). Any idea what you want to get for it?

Just what it’s worth now. Maybe around 100 euro for the 6 items.

Just checking and to be clear - LoRa chipset or LoRaWAN module? Chip (not a set, unless you are looking at the none SMTC parts?) is the SX127x. WRT Module did the ‘A’ (and a later F/w update?) not fix? (Long forgotten status there!.. :blush: ) I know some very early units (White UNO’s?) had none A modules…and with early f/w…

Right, I know I shouldn’t reply in a hurry and be more careful with my wording.

The RN2483(A) modules newest firmware hangs upon receipt of the ADR response the current TTN stack (almost) always sends after it receives the first uplink.
So the only option is to stay away from firmware 1.0.5 and stay on LoRaWAN version 1.0.1.
Or brave souls with too much spare time on their hands could create their own firmware for the module based on the sources Microchip published on GitHub and solve the issue (if it is still present in that code base)

So my wording should have been “uses a LoRaWAN module with firmware issues if updated to the latest available”.

Ah, thanks for clarifying…. Thought 1.05 was the fix!, not the problem…. Have some old kit that didn’t work but no tools (and if honest skills! or time) to update so hadn’t moved on to 1.05 - sure I have some on that version though so should really check what they are doing as seemed to be working/sending data through without problems - not hanging…. Not doing complex stuff just monitoring temp, water/heating systems, and used a few TTNodes for e.g monitoring fridges temp + light level warns if door left open/adjar for too long) or monitoring greenhouses/poly-tunnels (temp again plus light level helps correlate with growth/ripening/yield monitoring). :thinking: sure data was still flowing……

@henk2000 Have seen 2nd hand TTKGW’s sell for typically £40-50 with range £25-75 (have bought a few for community use when seen cheap, and have a couple in stock ready!), with new ones seen £180-£250…… some on sites attempt for unrealistic £>>300! sale price. Older units need f/w updates to get back on TTN (old certs dead IIRC). New UNO’s and Nodes I see £40-£50, 2nd hand £5-£20 (a few optimistic eBay sellers try to get new like pricing), depending on age/condition.

I know one eBay seller took some GWs and End devices down from sale last week to rest the listings and will likely be re-listing early/mid next month with new units to be listed:

TTKGW (with firmware update so network ready) =£195-200
TTUNO = ~£48/49
TTNode = ~£39/40

Bought a 2nd hand GW and (iirc) about 8 end nodes -can’t recall the mix- for £70-75 at start of summer so €100 in the ball park, maybe accept a bit less if you get offer?

With the advances in the stack and the like, I’d respectfully suggest that the TTN Uno & Node would make good ornaments or a museum of some sort - other modules can be had for less that use less power & are bang up to date.

Quite so and esp wrt

TTNode proved useful for quick demoes and easy deployments as a sensor system vs just a module or dev platform (Uno).

Fact is though there are '000’s out there and if breaking or failing with stack updates etc. that is a concern & will need replacing? or ‘fixing’ if not to cause other issues…

Maybe we create/change to a ‘Handling Legacy H/W’ Thread and stop hijacking this one (my fault I know! :wink: )
