A Closer Look at LoRaWAN and The Things Network
http://www.rs-online.com/designspark/electronics/eng/blog/a-closer-look-at-lorawan-and-the-things-network

In this post we first take a look at just how it is that LoRaWAN is able to cover far greater distances than traditional wireless systems, before exploring the network architecture, looking at some of the hardware options.

Bluetooth® 5 quadruples range New version of Bluetooth technology delivers “connectionless” IoT

“quadruples range, doubles speed, increases data broadcasting capacity by 800%”. As ususal no reference point is mentioned, nor indicative ranges. I assume it still no competition to Wifi w.r.t. range.

Bluetooth 5 is expected to deliver four times the range of Bluetooth 4.2, twice the speed, and eight times the data broadcasting capability. The IoT capabilities baked into BT 4.2 will be expanded as well; the Bluetooth SIG is claiming that the increased range, performance, and total broadcasting capability will allow IoT devices like smartwatches to move away from a paired app-device model and operate independently in their own right.
