Hello,
I recently changed from a 868MHz to a 915MHz gateway.
The 868 variant had a SMA Female connector, where as the 915 variant has a SMA Male connector. Is this by design? if so, why?
Thanks,
-S.

Are you sure it is a SMA Male connector? An SMA RP Female is more likely.
RP SMA is required in the USA to comply with FCC regulations.
Thanks

I have put forward a frequency plan for Israel isr915-917. 300k separation from 915.1 to 916.9
If you need a adapter contact me
I think the SMA and SMA-RP was some fcc rule to stop you from putting a large antenna on wifi 2.4mhz
But both are now widely used I have a RAK831 it came with a Antenna it was the wrong type for N1201SA (Vector Impedance Analyzer) so I checked the antenna with a SMA adapter VSWR is 1.2 at 950mhz and vswr 2.2 at 915mhz if I trust the N1201SA
I have been offered samples on a 915mhz from a local supplier as well as a 915mhz chip antenna.
I may just build one using the N1201SA to tune to 915mhz.
