I’ve been buying quite a few of the Laird Sentrius RG191 gateways recently.
I had been getting them from Element14 (Farnell in some places) for NZ$374.91 +taxes with free shipping. Total price per gateway charged by Element14 was NZ$431.15.
Element 14 were out of stock, so I brought some from Mouser electronics - $20 more expensive at $396.15. Taxes weren’t charged at checkout but I figured i’d be up for something like $60 per gateway in taxes, so not the end of the world.
I’ve just got off the phone from UPS and had to pay the sum of $153 per gateway in taxes. It should have been $63 per gateway plus $70 for the shipment, but mouser in their infinite wisdom…
- Declared the value of the “Free” shipping as $75
- Sent two gateways as two separate shipments.
TLDR: Pay taxes the checkout process, it’ll save you on unexpected costs.
