New RAK7204 Environmental Sensor

The price looks a bit steep. Anyway it is my favorite brand so i’m glad they have released some end device. And for sure will order to test it.

Not sure about these parameters “Gas Pressure and Indoor Air Quality (IAQ)” especially about “Gas Pressure”. It is used for i understand to measure Gas pressure but how does that useful?

I disagree a bit  compared to what other sensor with a build in BME 680 ?
See for example Adafruit BME680 - Temperature, Humidity, Pressure and Gas Sensor [STEMMA QT] : ID 3660 : Adafruit Industries, Unique & fun DIY electronics and kits and that’s only the sensor… not the node, but I haven’t seen it or tested it So I can’t say anything about the overall quality.

Indoor Air Quality (IAQ) is a calculation done in the sensor itself and can be read

Thank you for the link it described really well. And it looks like really powerful sensor if it can detect that much different gases: “Gases that can be detected by the BME680 include Volatile Organic Compounds (VOC) from paints (such as formaldehyde), lacquers, paint strippers, cleaning supplies, furnishings, office equipment, glues, adhesives and alcohol.”

Really wide using cases. Even in construction areas. I’m pretty amazed.

I would not rely on prices from adafruit. There prices way too big. In example looks like original BME680 sensor. And the price for 5pcs 31Eur. So it is 6Eur each.

Again, now you are comparing the price from an smd chip in China with a complete adafruit sensor on PCB, not really fair
*btw we had this type of discussion before… don’t think as an hobbyist but as a company who has to pay salaries / development *

You win. I quess it is possible to make it cheaper but no one wants cheap crap  I have ordered one and will going to test. Somehow thinking will be the same still unstable firmware

Actually BME680 IAQ is done outside the BME680, on your processor with a moderately large binary blob library they want you to incorporate in your node’s firmware. They offer an option to run the library on a server instead, but that requires a reliable downlink to command the sensor-side stub, so isn’t workable via something like TTN.

So you want to say RAK7204 can not send IAQ data unless incorporated in server side?

No, that is almost the opposite of what I said. Please re-read with a bit more care.

I hate to admit but basically you are right :innocent:

However the BME680 itself outputs a 'IAQ signal , a resistance value, but that needs to be processed together with temperature/pressure and humidity.

not directly related to RAK 7204 product , but some background info about this very special BME680 sensor chip

I hope to receive the RAK7204 soon
