Max cable length

Hi!
I look at this photo
what maximum cable length do you have on your gateways?

I guess there is no one answer and it will depend on your deployment: what is your system performance target, how easy is access…and what type of cable for the run?

Personally I avoid RG174 where I can unless used for short pig-tails off a u-fl conn - typically 3-12inches (10-30cm?) but if pushed I may consider for 1-1.5m if space constrained or needing many tight turns, but acccepting a big loss. RG58 ok for pig-tails, or slightly longer runs if coming off board using SMA conn or if you just want to extend or better position aerial by say 1-2m…3m tops for me. Beyond that I would look at ultra low loss vs low loss cables - perhaps Aircell 5 for 3-5m+, to perhaps 10m max or something better - Aircell 7 or higher or LR-400 or some equivalent for >>5/10m. Best option is keep cable short and if in doubt mount GW closer to aerial position then use Wi-Fi or Wireline Enet to get longer reach - poss combined with POE.

Just my 2 penneth…YMMV :slight_smile:

It should be as short as possible.

Here is a handy calculator for checking the loss on various types of co-ax;
