Low RSSI value on TTN metadata

Hi,
I’m using the RAK tracker node and RAK831 gateway. When all was set up, I was starting to test. I place node and gateway very close to each other about 10 cm and want to see what the rssi value is. And then, I found out the rssi value is very low about -78 dBm. I think this rssi value is uncorrect in such this close range. Does anyone know how to solve this problem? Thanks!

Tell us why you think its incorrect ?

I tested the maximum range between tracker and gateway. And it’s only 15 meters in line-of-sight situation. I’ve checked the antenna is in correct band. That’s why i doubt the problem is rssi.

If you only get 15M line of sight, the most likely cause in my experience is;

No Antenna
Faulty Antenna
Blown LoRa module on node due to the above.

Has the Gateway ever worked?
Has the node ever worked, does it work elsewhere ?
What has RAK said about your problems with their product ?

In your experience, what is the max range about between tracker and gateway in line of sight and non line of sight situation with SF 7 and node power is 20dBm ?

what’s your gateway EUI ?

Thats probably an illegal level of power.

I don’t think it’s a good idea to place them such a short distance I guess it will damage your modems.
