Am I correct in assuming that the Adeunis field tester can’t be used on the TTN community network as it appears to use 100% confirmed messages to get the received gateway RssI and SNR returned to the tester. This would go against the 10 download message limit.

You are right. Confirmed uplinks are followed by a downlink. For the time of the downlink the gateway is deaf. Additionally the gateways have to respect the legal duty cycle. These are the reasons why you should use confirmed uplinks very seldom.
But maybe the Adeunis field tester is able to work with TTNmapper. Then you can see the results there by only using uplinks.
