Unitymedia, Webdiscount partner on LoRaWan in Muenster

German cable operator Unitymedia announced that it’s rolling out a LoRaWan in Muenster with the local ISP Webdiscount. The companies plan to develop smart city services over the wireless IoT network, working with the Unitymedia Eco-Partner System.
Unitymedia is providing the gateways and will operate the network, while Webdiscount provides the locations, backbone capacity and a data centre in Muenster.
Muenster is the first city to benefit from an offer from Unitymedia to install LoRaWan gateways free for the first 50 cities in North Rhine-Westphalia that register interest. The company said many other municipalities have already registered interest.
