Now into 2021 we are well into covering Berkshire widely thanks to the Smart Berkshire initiative. Two rounds of projects took place over the last 2yrs despite interruptions caused by Covid. The Things Conference UK 2019 was a great success in Reading, and the global one is being held in cyberspace at the end of January 2021.
2015: Reading gets its first gateway
2016: Reading expands to 8 gateways, Wokingham gets its first
2017: Reading expands to 12, Wokingham gets a second
2018: Four Berkshire Councils come together to create Smart Berkshire
2019: Smart Berkshire rollout to support showcase projects.
2019: Reading hosts the TTN Roadshow
2020: Smart Projects started in January and made some progress inspite of Covid restrictions.

Local coverage started in 2015 in Reading town centre through community support following a presentation at RDGGeekNight by Mark Stanley who had seen the potential of a project started in Amsterdam that July.
In 2018 the first Smart Berkshire gateways were installed at two Reading sites and provide additional coverage complementing the existing community coverage. Extensive on-the-ground analysis has confirmed our coverage expectations were correct.
2019 sees the wider coverage rollout from Hungerford to Ascot supported by the Four Council Smart Berkshire Clusters initiative. Four funded Idea Challenges are underway.
2020 sees coverage across Bracknell Forest and Wokingham withing the Smart Berkshire Network.
