Unleash Tyne Valley and become an official community of The Things Network
Unleash !Our mission is to provide an extended run of the Tyne Valley & surrounding districts with Internet of Things data connectivity by crowdsourcing the network by its citizens and local companies.
Plans for reach extending approximately 20km upstream and downstream from around Corbridge - from the tidal area between Wylam and the A1 crossing over the river in the East to beyond the confluence of the North and South Tyne Rivers as far as approximately Haydon Bridge and the confluence of the South Tyne & River Allen, and extending some 5-10km into the hinterland areas surrounding the main valley.
With an initial focus on the downstream post code areas in sight of Wylam and Prudhoe and quickly extending up river beyond Corbridge & Hexham as far as Hulmshaugh overlooking the River North Tyne and reaching out to Allendale Town, we have been conducting ad hoc tests using LoRa/LoRaWAN for over 2years and are now ready to initiate this community with the first gateways already deployed in the Wylam/Prudhoe & Corbridge areas.
Long term we hope to dovetail with the Newcastle-Upon-Tyne & Consett Communities as well as extend up the River Tyne and along the A69 & Trans-Pennine Rail routes to finally join up with the Cumbria community across the Pennines.
Significant coverage tests have already been conducted from the key focus areas and a number of pop-up sites in the region.....stay tuned for coverage updates and new gateway/base-station sites in the coming weeks and months.
We are happy to have you join the community. Contact the core team and help us unleash the Internet of Things along the Tyne Valley
